Clarissa

"Mrs. Dalloway" goes to Lagos in this surprising adaptation of Virginia Woolf's 1925 classic, written and directed by brothers Arie and Chuko Esiri, set in present-day Nigeria. Sophie Okonedo plays the title socialite, who revisits memories of her youth and choices untaken, drawn back towards long-gone relationships. Slipping between past and present, the film meditates on universal themes of love and regret against its contemporary African backdrop.
